In the vibrant city of Kansas City, Zahra Briggs is not just making waves as an artist but also supporting others in her community. As the creative force behind ZNTL Entertainment and known by her stage name, Zee Underscore, she’s dedicated to providing independent artists with the right platforms to showcase their talents.
Briggs noticed a significant gap in the availability of positive performance venues for artists who were serious about their craft but not yet established. “There has to be some space for artists who are not yet established, but are working toward it,” she explained. As such, she created ZNTL to help fill this void, allowing talented individuals to perform with dignity and excitement.
Beginning in 2021, Zee launched the fun and cozy Pajama Jam events—where live music meets a slumber-party vibe, creating a supportive environment for musicians at a transitional stage in their careers. This hit concept quickly became an annual favorite and led her to develop the First Friday series in Kansas City’s Crossroads Arts District. These events have transformed into notable block parties, encouraging community engagement while offering musicians a platform.
Briggs aims to rejuvenate the spirit of local art and music, enhancing connections between galleries and artists. “ZNTL having the capability to do live streams is going to balance things out—people can buy art while also supporting musicians,’ she noted, highlighting the dual benefit of her efforts.
As Zee Underscore, Briggs embraces a persona full of positivity and self-discovery. “Zee is going to give energy. She’s going to be happy, grateful, and joyful about everything,” said Briggs. Her latest single, ‘IDRK’, portrays her journey of finding optimism amidst life’s changes, which resonates deeply with her audience.
Transitioning from an electrical engineering job to exploring her musical passion marked a pivotal moment in her life. “Once I stopped taking myself so seriously I was able to start living and really enjoying life,” she stated, emphasizing the joyful spontaneity that now fuels her creative ventures.
Aiming to spread messages of self-love and wellness, Briggs is excited about her latest project, Pocket Z. This concept initially began as a plush toy but evolved, with her now focusing on creating a relatable character for social media. “When you create your avatar and drop in, there’s no one there to guide you,” she remarked, envisioning Pocket Z as a friendly companion in the metaverse.
Through platforms like TikTok and Instagram, Briggs is set to gather interest and feedback on Pocket Z without immediate app development costs. Her hope is to use this interactive approach to make digital spaces more welcoming and supportive for newcomers.
In Kansas City, Zahra Briggs continues to inspire aspiring artists through her unwavering commitment to creating positive environments. By championing artistic talent and fostering community connections, she is truly making a difference in the local creative scene.
