Hey there, Kansas City! Are you ready to embrace some spine-tingling thrills and invite a generous sprinkle of campy fun into your Halloween season? You’re in luck, as the Kansas City Horror Play Festival is back and better than ever, returning from October 29 through November 1 at The Black Box! Mark your calendars, gather your friends, and prepare for a hauntingly delightful experience filled with laughter and some mildly spooky vibes.
This year’s festival will be embracing all things 80s with the addition of the Spooky Sh!t Show, a collection of eight short horror plays that will be sure to give you the creeps and the giggles all at once! Created by Erika Lynnette Baker in 2016, the event will feature works from six talented playwrights alongside Baker and co-producer Chris M. Arnone. Each play will be brought to life by six amazing local actors ready to take you on an unforgettable journey filled with terrifying narratives.
The festival will kick off on October 29. Doors open at 7:30 PM and the show starts at 8 PM. Each night promises to bring chills and thrills, so whether you choose to attend on Tuesday or Wednesday, you’ll have the opportunity to catch each show individually.
Halloween night is the perfect time for some frightful fun, as you can witness the Spooky Sh!t Show at 8 PM, nestled comfortably between some delightful vendor fare starting at 7 PM. And that’s not all — the night will showcase a double feature with the Kansas City Horror Play Festival returning at 10 PM for those looking to really grab the Halloween spirit!
This festival is not just about the spine-tingling stories; it’s a genuine carnival of fun! On the double feature nights, make sure to explore the maker market bustling with unique finds, kick back playing some yard games, and get into the Halloween spirit by joining the costume contest. It’s a chance to showcase your best spooky, kooky, or downright silly costumes while enjoying all the festival has to offer.
Don’t forget to check out “Tree of Life,” a brand-new production making its debut at The White Theatre, which delves into the journey of a sacred Torah over a century in a small-town Iowa synagogue. And if you want a whimsical holiday treat, catch Cirque Du Soleil’s inaugural holiday-themed show, “Twas the Night Before…” at the Kansas City Music Hall!
Kansas City is alive with thrilling entertainment options over the next week, and we can’t wait to see you out and about. So grab your loved ones, put on your best costumes, and dive into the fun at this year’s Kansas City Horror Play Festival and beyond! Make sure to catch all the frightful fun and delightful surprises the city has to offer this Halloween season!
