The incident occurred on February 10, 2025, and sent shockwaves through the community. Investigations led to the identification of further suspects, and authorities are urging anyone with information to assist in the ongoing case.
In a significant development in Kansas City, Kansas, police have apprehended a suspect linked to a tragic convenience store shooting that claimed the life of a beloved local business owner. The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD) announced the arrest of 25-year-old Justin J. Arbee from Kansas City, Missouri, on March 8, 2025.
The heart-wrenching incident occurred on February 10, 2025, at Joe’s Liquor & Convenience Store, where 64-year-old Zulfiqar Ladhani was sadly shot outside his own store. Ladhani, known as a friendly face in the neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene. This violent event sent shockwaves through our community, raising concerns about safety in local businesses.
On the fateful day of the shooting, multiple calls flooded into the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) around 9 a.m., reporting sightings of a gunman threatening someone. Officers quickly swung into action, rushing to the scene, only to find Ladhani’s lifeless body outside the convenience store.
Investigation teams wasted no time, pouring over surveillance video that revealed crucial evidence against Arbee and two other suspects. The footage showed Arbee alongside Kevin L. Herring, who was allegedly seen stealing from the store. Herring was apprehended on February 21 and currently faces charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
The police investigation uncovered that when Herring and Arbee attempted to steal items from Joe’s Liquor & Convenience Store, Ladhani confronted them with a firearm. In what developed into a tragic confrontation, both Herring and Arbee shot at Ladhani, resulting in his senseless death. A third suspect connected to this case remains unidentified at this time.
Arbee was arrested without incident at a residence in the 1000 block of Quindaro Boulevard, with police revealing that he had an outstanding warrant related to the homicide case. He is now being held in Wyandotte County Jail as the investigation continues.
The KCKPD is asking for the community’s help in bringing justice for Zulfiqar Ladhani. Anyone with information about this tragic case is encouraged to reach out to the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more details emerge. This horrific event is a somber reminder of the issues our neighborhoods face and underscores the importance of community vigilance.
As Kansas City comes to terms with this loss, folks are reminded to look out for one another and remain vigilant in their surroundings. Together, we can work towards a safer and more secure neighborhood for all.
