Several Grocery Stores in Kansas City Metro Area to Shut Early
Kansas City, Mo. – Several grocery outlets throughout the Kansas City metro area will be closing ahead of schedule on Tuesday as part of a special occasion. All 25 area grocery stores owned by Balls Food Stores will be closing their doors early to honour and celebrate the company’s 100th year of business.
Early Closing for Centennial Celebration
Catering to thousands of daily shoppers, the stores to be affected by this early closure will include the renowned Hen House Markets, SunFresh, Payless, and 13 of the area’s Price Chopper stores. All stores are scheduled to close their operations at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Normal business hours will be resumed the following day, on Wednesday.
“There’s no better way to celebrate 100 years of being in business than to bring together all 2,600 teammates for a party,” said David Ball, the president of BFS and grandson of the company’s founders, Sydney and Mollie Ball. For him, the celebration is a way to appreciate the staff’s passionate commitment to delivering customer-centric service against all odds.
Family-Owned Business Turns 100
Balls Food Stores, the company under which these stores fall, is a local, family-run business. The Balls family has played a pivotal role in supporting and helping it grow over the last century. Their success mantra is encapsulated in Sydney Ball’s words, “If you take care of your teammates, they’ll take care of the customer – and the customer will take care of the business.”
Impact and Thought Behind the Early Closure
While the stores will undoubtedly see fewer hours of business on Tuesday, the decision for an early closure aims to serve a greater purpose. The management believes that it’s their loyal, hardworking staff who are most deserving of this centennial celebration. This early closure is being looked at as an opportunity to show appreciation to those who have helped build the brand over a century. Furthermore, this early closure is seen as having minimal drawbacks as normal operating hours are scheduled to resume the following day.
While patrons may experience slight inconvenience due to the early closure, the cause behind it is indeed a special one. The Balls Food Stores’ centennial is a testament to the company’s enduring presence in the Kansas City metro area, with their grocery outlets standing as beloved symbols of a resilient business that continues to serve Kansas City’s residents a century later.
