Weekend Food and Pride Extravaganza in Kansas City

With the summer heating up, Kansas City is equally warming up with numerous food events and restaurant openings, coupled with a weekend filled with Pride and First Friday activities. Read on below as we detail the gastronomic landscape that will be sold out at the heart of Kansas City from June 6 to June 8.

New Restaurant Openings in Kansas City

Brace yourselves for an epicurean adventure as three restaurants opened their doors the coming weekend. Among these, a noticeable shift in dining experiences can be appreciated. First up is the 39th Street Brewery. Located at the heart of Congreve Street, this renovated space is opening with nine craft beers on tap. Next in line is The Drunken Worm, back again with the chef who initially developed their menu and the old-time favorites. Lastly, Entity, a day-and-night lounge located at College & Switzer in Overland Park. In the morning, it’s a coffee shop that serves strong, flavorful brews. By night, it transforms into a lounge that offers an distinct menu of wine, beer, and craft cocktails.

Pride and Food Events in Kansas City

The Pride Month is being celebrated in Kansas City in the best way possible– combining food, drink, fun, and a sense of community. Restaurants such as Donutology, Gaels Public House, Goat & Rabbit, and Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop are making efforts to support the LGBTQIA+ community by holding various campaigns throughout the month. To note, Donutology is contributing $10 to PRIDE Haven KC Shelter for every box of Pride mini-donuts sold.

The First Friday Food Series

First Fridays are a special part of Kansas City’s culture, and what could be a better way to kick start it than with wonderful food experiences? Participants will get to enjoy a spread of food and drink activities. Some of the highlights of the event include the stellar KC vendors such as Devoured Pizza and Chivos Food Truck, Lilly’s Cantina’s DJ/music and dine-in menu, Café Corazon’s non-alcoholic Amor Matcha Y Rosa drink, and the free drink samples and professional networking at Kin Seltzer.

Old Shawnee Days

Old Shawnee Days celebrates the season with an offering of free live music, kids activities, and of course, a wide selection of food and drinks. The main attraction is the baking contest wherein local bakers come up with delicious treats and compete for the top prize. Food trucks offering delectable delights perfectly complement the free performance by The Phil Collins Experience on the main stage at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

National Donut Day

Doughnut or donut, whatever you call it, they are still undeniably delicious. And having a day to celebrate them on June 7th is going to be a treat for everyone. Two donut shops, in particular, are a must-visit: Donut King and Mr. D’s Donuts. From yeast-raised donuts to blueberry cake donuts, these shops will satisfy anyone’s donut cravings.
