Kansas City Gears Up for a Week of Historic Anniversaries, Legislative Sessions, and Star-Studded Concerts

Kansas City Week in Review: Anniversaries, Legislative Drama, and Concerts

This week promises to be an interesting one for residents of Kansas City, hosting noteworthy anniversaries, the wrap-up of a legislative session and stellar concerts from big names in the music industry.

Brown v. Board of Education – 70 Years On

On Friday, we mark the 70th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark Supreme Court ruling of Topeka, Kansas, which legally ended racial segregation in America’s public schools. Celebrations will reach a crescendo on Saturday, as more than a hundred former students and teachers return to the Topeka school at the epicenter of the monumental ruling now managed by the National Park Service. The day’s schedule includes panel discussions by education leaders reflecting on the extent of change in schools since the historic court decision.

The Legislative Hustle

Keep an eye on the Missouri lawmakers who are racing against time as the legislative session comes to a close on Friday. In particular, watch for the last ditch attempts to erect legislative hurdles against the potential overturning of the state’s abortion ban by voters this November. This continues to be the most significant unresolved issue of the session as lawmakers are yet to reach a consensus on how best to do it.

Trade Mission to Italy

As lawmakers rush to wrap up the legislative session, Gov. Mike Parson gears up for a trade mission to Italy. Set to kick off this Saturday in Rome and Milan, the mission is a move to strengthen Missouri’s trade ties with Italy, a robust trading partner for the state with over $169 million in exports last year. The governor’s office has stipulated that the excursion’s budget will not stretch taxpayer expense and instead is funded by the Hawthorn Foundation, a nonprofit aimed at advancing economic development in Missouri.

Expect Sports and Star-Packed Concerts

Rounding off the packed week in Kansas City are some exciting sports events and concerts. The week sees nearly 20 of the most prominent names in Royals history coming together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their 2014 World Series appearance. The city is also set to host the second annual “Kelce Jam” music festival at Azura Amphitheater headlined by famous rappers Lil Wayne, Diplo, and 2Chainz.

Moreover, as part of Live Nation Concert Week, Kansas City music enthusiasts can grab a chance to secure $25 tickets to shows by Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire at Starlight Theater, and country stars Tim McGraw and Luke Bryan at T-Mobile Center. However, quick action is essential as this special ticket offer is available till Tuesday midnight only.

Stay tuned for an impactful and eventful week in Kansas City!
