It’s been a few months since the exciting Super Bowl celebrations took a heartbreaking turn here in Kansas City. Recently, one of the individuals charged in connection with the tragic shooting that occurred during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl rally has taken a step towards accountability. Jose L. Castillo, a 36-year-old man from Wichita, has pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing a firearm.

Details of the Incident

The events unfolded back in February when the atmosphere at the rally was electric, filled with excitement and joy as fans celebrated the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory. Probation Requirements

As part of his probation, Castillo is required to complete 40 hours of community service or secure a full-time job. In addition, he will be subjected to random urine tests to ensure he is not using any illicit substances. Importantly, he is also prohibited from being near any firearms or ammunition during this time.

How Castillo Got Involved

When police arrived at the scene of the shooting, they found Castillo with a gun in his possession. Reports indicate that a witness told the officers that Castillo had picked up one of the handguns that was used in the shooting and tried to walk away with it. In a follow-up interview with police, Castillo recounted being at Union Station, celebrating with friends when he suddenly heard a series of loud noises that he initially thought were fireworks.

The situation escalated quickly, and Castillo described seeing others fleeing the area. However, after a brief getaway from all the commotion, he returned to the restroom, where he spotted a black handgun on the ground and decided to pick it up, which ultimately led to his arrest.

Currently, Castillo has been released from custody, but his case isn’t an isolated incident. He is one of three individuals, along with another man and a teenager, to face charges in connection with that fateful day in February.
