Kansas City Coffee Shop Owner Calls for Action Amid Rising Crime Rates After Employee Robbed at Gunpoint

Kansas City Coffee Shop Owner Speaks Out After Employee Robbed

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A local coffee shop owner is raising concerns about safety after one of his employees was the victim of a shocking robbery at gunpoint. The violent incident occurred just moments after the employee left work and was heading home for the evening.

The Incident

The employee, who works at Oddly Correct Coffee Bar, was targeted while walking home from dinner. According to co-owner Mike Schroeder, the victim was forced to hand over their belongings, including essential medications, identification cards, and prescription glasses, all taken during the frightening robbery.

Schroeder expressed his frustration over the increase in crime, stating, “I am kind of fed up seeing so many people being victimized in Kansas City.” His coffee shop, located at East 42nd Street and Troost Avenue, has been open for three years, and he notes that the past year has seen a notable rise in vandalism and violent crime.

Growing Concerns in the Community

Residents in the area are feeling uneasy, with reports of assaults and robberies becoming more frequent. Local resident Sharif Bryant voiced his concerns, saying, “You have to wonder what’s going on. Is this an isolated thing or a bigger thing at play?”

The unsettling atmosphere has left many in the community questioning their safety when out and about, especially in the evenings.

Call for Action

Amid the rising crime rate, Schroeder is calling for more comprehensive measures from city leaders to improve safety and support for those in desperate situations. “The fact of the matter is that the police don’t stop the crime from happening; they respond to it, which is needed obviously. But I think what’s really lacking is other resources to help people who are getting to this point of desperation,” he stated.

Looking Forward

A police report has been filed regarding this incident, and the local authorities are currently investigating. As the community rallies together and raises awareness, there’s hope for a brighter, safer future ahead for Kansas City.
