In a courageous act of civic duty, Paul Contreras, a bystander at the Kansas City Chiefs parade, sprang into action to intercept a man armed with a gun. Following a shooting incident at the celebratory event, Contreras heard shouts instructing him to stop the suspect.

“I just heard somebody yelling to ‘stop this guy, tackle him’ and he was coming in the opposite direction, so I just, you don’t think about it. It’s just a reaction,” Contreras explained.

Contreras bravely tackled the man, causing a gun to fall from his possession. Assisted by other bystanders, Contreras managed to subdue the armed individual until law enforcement arrived at the scene.

Shooting Incident at Chiefs Parade

Following the joyous parade to rejoice the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl triumph, a wave of panic spread as gunshots erupted near Union Station. This incident occurred despite extensive police presence in the vicinity, with more than 800 officers on duty. Local authorities believe the shooting originated from a dispute between a group of individuals. A tragic consequence of this unanticipated event resulted in the loss of one life and left 22 injured, ranging in age from 8 to 47, with half under the age of 16.

“I’m angry at what happened today. The people who came to this celebration should expect a safe environment,” expressed Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves expressing disappointment over the incidents.

Among the victims of the shooting was Lisa Lopez-Galvan, the host of a popular radio show “Taste of Tejano,” and a mother of two. Public sentiment echoed strong sentiments of loss for the community, deprived of a vibrant personality due to the tragic incident.
