Kansas City is astir with burgeoning technological endeavors, thanks to the KC Futures DAO, a pioneering decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that’s making determined strides to put Kansas City on the global blockchain map.
The DAO model is carving out a reputation as a sustainable means of generating wealth and attracting investment, thanks to its inherent transparency and security features. By giving everyone a seat at the table, DAOs, like KC Futures, are becoming powerful tools in driving economic development and bringing financial inclusion to parts of the world where traditional financial systems have failed to reach.
Founder of KC Futures DAO, Troy Carlson anticipates the platform acting as a key to unlock and leverage the talent and wealth lying dormant in overlooked regions. As explained by Carlson, “What we want to do with Kansas City Futures DAO is display Kansas City to the world in all of our assets and all of the rich things we have because nobody knows about it.”
Currently, in phase one of their fundraising efforts, the team aims to raise $500,000 in the next six months to be channeled towards the tech buildout of their DAO, smart contracts creation, administration, legal compliance, and other logistics. The target for the first year is to raise a total of $1.6 to $1.7 million. The founders are optimistic that the city’s undervalued yet incredible wealth and talent will rally behind this cause to help it succeed.
When it comes to determining those who get to have a voice in the DAO, Carlson emphasized the importance of giving a chance to individuals making valuable contributions to Kansas City. Artists, social workers, activists, organizers, and others are integral parts of the community and their inputs should be considered. Carlson said that the inclusivity and democracy inherent in the DAO model allows such individuals to have a vital voice and create non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that metaphorically represent their contributions to the city.
With the potential to democratize wealth creation and increase transparency in decision-making processes, DAOs are transforming societies, cities and even nations – and this is only the beginning. While the United States is still relatively new to the notion of DAOs, other parts of the world have already witnessed the positive impact with an impressive 300% increase in the number of DAOs globally from 2022 to 2023.
This initiative is considered a significant step in amplifying Kansas City’s presence on the global stage by leveraging on cutting-edge blockchain technology. It’s not just about being recognized as a major financial powerhouse, but more importantly, it’s about showcasing the city’s unique attributes and potential within the blockchain ecosystem. Further, the community is excited at the potential of digitizing Kansas City and showcasing what the city offers on this innovative platform.
