Kansas City, Mo. — A 52-year-old man is facing serious legal consequences after being charged with second-degree arson, connected to a fire that resulted in significant damage to Haha’s Kebabs and Shawarma restaurant in Midtown.
Authorities were called to the scene after the restaurant caught fire. Upon arriving, firefighters discovered heavy damage and a distinct smell of gasoline lingering in the air. Investigators quickly began their examination and turned to surveillance footage to piece together what had occurred.
The footage showed the accused, identified as George Daniels, and an unknown accomplice breaking into the restaurant. In a shocking turn of events, the video captured Daniels throwing a gasoline container into the establishment before both individuals began tossing burning objects inside through a shattered window.
When questioned by investigators, Daniels seemed disoriented and claimed he couldn’t recall much of that night, attributing his hazy memory to having smoked “wet cigarettes.” This term often refers to marijuana cigarettes mixed with other substances. As the interrogation continued, he acknowledged his presence in the surveillance footage.
Daniels is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday at 1 p.m., facing a bond set at $100,000 cash. This case highlights the ongoing issues related to arson and the impact it can have on communities and local businesses.
