Raytown Man Receives Nearly Six Years in Prison Following Participation in January 6 Attack

A 39-year-old Raytown man, Christopher Brian Roe, has been sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison for his involvement in the infamous attacks on the U.S. Capitol which took place on January 6th, 2021.
Plea Deal and Charges
Roe reached an agreement with the authorities in last November where he consented to plead guilty on three felony counts. These included assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers during the January 6 attack. In a court document released last month, Roe’s attorneys advocated for him to receive just over a year in prison for his actions. Significantly, the submission cited the actions of former President Donald Trump and a U.S. Senator from Missouri as contributing factors that influenced Roe’s participation in the protest.
The Government’s Verdict
In the face of Roe’s attorneys’ pleas, the government pushed for a harsher punishment close to the maximum permitted by law. They requested that Roe face nearly six years in prison, supplemented with a further two years of supervised release and a $2,000 fine. This is a marked contrast from the penalty of up to eight years and a fine of up to $250,000.

In an interview, the senator from Missouri said: “If you want to demonstrate peacefully, I support it 100%. I was seen outside supporting the demonstrators, and I stand by that 100%.
