In the powerhouse metropolitan of Kansas City, an independent imaging clinic named Element Medical Imaging is making waves in the healthcare industry by offering affordable medical imaging services. This pioneering venture is tackling the high cost of essential medical imaging services that often hit patients in the pocket.
Medical imaging plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of various health conditions. However, it can be a heavy financial burden for many patients. According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, an MRI, for example, can cost anywhere from $1,200 to $4,000, and a CT scan can range from $1,200 to $3,200. Element Medical Imaging is changing this narrative by offering low-cost, cash-price imaging.
“It’s very difficult to diagnose what’s wrong with a patient without some sort of imaging,” explains Dr. Luke Wilson, a physician and president of Element Medical Imaging. “Healthcare is difficult because it’s hard to find transparency in healthcare. So we try to make it as transparent as possible.”
Element Medical Imaging is able to offer more affordable prices due to its independent nature. Unlike hospitals, the clinic is not burdened with facility fees and other extensive overheads. Dr. Wilson suggests that these extraneous costs are typically passed onto the insurance company and ultimately the patient.
“Those extra costs, while they don’t necessarily create better imaging, are passed along to the insurance company and as a result, the patient or the consumer,” he adds.
In spite of the lower cost, the clinic guarantees quality by using state-of-the-art equipment for its services, which puts it on par with hospital facilities. According to Dr. Wilson, they have specialty-trained radiologists on staff and use their expertise to streamline the process. Additionally, Element Medical Imaging is proud to be the first outpatient, non-affiliated hospital in the region to house a CT PET scanner, a tool integral to cancer diagnosis.
One such patient benefiting from the services of Element Medical Imaging is Jeffrey Williams. He had multiple injuries that required regular imaging, namely on both knees, both shoulders, and his right hand. “I’m not spending $2,000 for both shoulders, my hand. I probably would’ve spent $10,000?” Williams opined. His costs plummeted from thousands to mere hundreds thanks to this affordable healthcare initiative.
In the often complex and expensive realm of healthcare, Element Medical Imaging is trailblazing affordable and transparent medical imaging services. By making these necessary procedures accessible, the clinic is not only easing financial burdens but also contributing significantly to the early diagnosis and treatment of various health conditions.
