Festive Cheer in South Kansas City: Holiday Events You Won’t Want to Miss!

It’s that wonderful time of year again in South Kansas City, and if you’re looking for some cheerful ways to celebrate the season, you’re in luck! The holiday festivities are in full swing, and there are some amazing events coming up that you definitely should know about.

Free Christmas Dinner for Seniors

Are you or someone you know a senior citizen who might be spending Christmas alone? Worry not! This Christmas Day, around noon, a free Christmas dinner will be served—or even delivered—at three welcoming locations across the metro area. In South Kansas City, dinner will be served at St. Peters Elementary School, located at 6400 Charlotte.

This heartwarming initiative is made possible by none other than Richard D. White, a retired police officer who has dedicated an incredible 47 years to providing free meals during the holidays. This year, with the help of numerous volunteers, they are prepared to feed over 800 people with a delicious smoked turkey dinner!

To sweeten the pot, there will be over 100 prizes raffled off to lucky winners. How’s that for a happy surprise? But be sure to take note: Reservations are needed by December 20th. You can either call or text 816-572-7646 or visit kcmoseniorcitizendinner.com for more details.

Celebrate with a Holiday Party and Champion Awards

Holiday Party and Champion Awards Ceremony hosted by Jackson County Legislator DaRon McGee on Thursday, December 12. This exciting event will take place at Starlight Theater’s Applause Club and is open to the public!

Enjoy great food and entertainment, all while celebrating the achievements of local heroes who are making a positive impact in the community. But wait, there’s more! Attendees are encouraged to bring along an unwrapped toy to donate to Sheffield Place, which supports women in shelters, making this event not just joyful but also meaningful.

This is a fantastic opportunity to mingle with your neighbors, enjoy the season, and give back to those in need—all in one night! To RSVP for this cheerful gathering, just shoot a message to kmrandolph@jacksongov.org.
