Get Ready for a Spooktacular Halloween Season in Kansas City!

As the leaves start to change and Halloween decorations begin to pop up, Kansas City is gearing up for some thrilling scares this season! The much-anticipated festivities kick off this week with a fantastic mix of old and new haunted experiences that promise to send chills down your spine. And trust me, this is one Halloween celebration you won’t want to miss!

Full Moon Productions: 50 Years of Haunting

Returning for its milestone 50th year, Full Moon Productions has been the go-to scare factory for locals since 1975. Their renowned haunted houses, including The Beast, Edge of Hell, and Macabre Cinema, will once again bring fright to the West Bottoms. These attractions are housed in large, multistoried buildings that are themselves steeped in history, dating back to around 1900. Prepare yourself for a remarkable trip through layers of terror!

This year, though, there’s a change! Timed ticketing is being introduced to improve your experience. If you’ve ever waited in those long lines, you’ll appreciate the move away from the first-come-first-served approach. Mark your calendar because The Beast and Edge of Hell are set to open on Friday, September 13, with Macabre Cinema following closely on September 27. These haunted houses will be open every Friday and Saturday in September, then expanding to Thursdays through Sundays in October and early November.

New Thrills: Exiled: Crooked Rose Woods

Just when you think you know all the spookiness the city has to offer, a new experience rolls in that is sure to catch your eye! Overland Park native and horror movie director Darren Lynn Bousman is bringing us “Exiled: Crooked Rose Woods,” an outdoor scare extravaganza in Bonner Springs. This unique experience starts on Saturday, September 13, with discounted preview dates on the 13th, 14th, and 20th, culminating in a grand opening on September 21.

Exiled features different levels of fright, including a 1-mile spooky hike through a dark forest for those who dare. You can choose from three levels of terror, ranging from the family-friendly Torment (PG-13) to the intense Annihilation (R), which even provides access to an open bar. But fair warning, this intense experience with frightening language and themes is not suitable for anyone under 16!

Everything You Need to Know

With so much going on, here’s a quick cheat sheet to make your visit as smooth as possible:

  • Patrons can purchase tickets online: $35 for Thursdays and Fridays, $40 for Saturdays, and $65 for VIP options. Combo tickets are also available.
  • Safety first! Kansas City Police officers will be on-site, so you can focus on being scared without worries.
  • No photography or video recording allowed — that means keeping your phone tucked away as you scream!
  • Comfortable shoes are a must, as there are uneven surfaces. Avoid sandals or flip-flops!
  • Restrooms are available at every location, so feel free to hydrate before you hit the scares!
  • And yes, parking is free!

The haunted houses will run from September 13 through November 2, while Exiled will open its doors until early November, with various operational hours depending on the day. So gather your friends, pick out that spooky costume, and prepare for a Halloween season filled with delightfully frightful adventures in Kansas City!

Now grab those tickets, and remember — once you step inside, it’s every scare for themselves!
