If you’re looking for a fun and interactive experience this spring and summer, Kansas City has just the thing for you! The highly anticipated The Science of Guinness World Records exhibition has officially opened its doors at Union Station, and it promises to be an adventure for visitors of all ages. This fantastic exhibit kicked off on March 8 and will be available for exploration through September 2.
Step into a world where limits are tested and challenges await. This immersive traveling exhibit allows you to explore the fascinating process of how world records are set while also giving you the opportunity to set one yourself! With an impressive lineup of around 70 interactive displays and 30 artifacts, you’ll find yourself engaged and entertained as you dive into the world of record-setting.
The exhibit is cleverly divided into seven distinct zones, each offering unique experiences. Among these are two exclusive zones specifically designed for Kansas City! The first is the Intro Theatre & Locomotive, featuring a stunning 20-foot-long locomotive crafted entirely out of matchsticks by talented artist Patrick Acton. You won’t believe your eyes!
Next up is the Be Inspired zone, showcasing some of the smallest handmade sculptures imaginable by artist Willard Wigan. Prepare to be amazed at the skill and craftsmanship involved in these tiny creations.
The remaining five zones—Ignite, Explore, Focus, React, and Endure—are packed with exciting challenges for you to tackle. For example, in the Endure zone, you can test your strength and stamina by seeing how long you can hang from a bar. The current world record is an astonishing 80 minutes and 41 seconds!
As if that wasn’t enough, the exhibit features a variety of additional activities including Pop-A-Shot basketball hoops, speed tagging buttons, nostalgic Pac-Man arcade games, and cozy video nooks where you can chill and enjoy. Visitors can also create personalized avatars that will help track their performance across different activities, making it all the more engaging.
Some of the notable records include the loudest stadium roar, achieved by fiercely dedicated Chiefs fans in 2014, which reached a mind-blowing 142.2 decibels. Talk about a home-field advantage!
Tickets for The Science of Guinness World Records exhibit are available to purchase online, with various price options to suit different budgets. Schools are also jumping on the bandwagon and are beginning to book field trips, bringing students in to learn and experience all the wonders of records.
As the exhibit continues to roll on throughout the summer, discussions are already underway for possible future world record attempts, adding even more excitement to your visit. Union Station’s Bank of America Gallery, which once housed the popular Disney100: The Exhibition, is the perfect backdrop for this record-breaking experience.
