The Furniture Mall of Missouri is set to open its third location in Kansas City’s Northland, taking over the soon-to-close Macy’s store. Renovations will begin on April 1st to transform the 150,000 square feet space into a vibrant new shopping destination featuring over 1,000 furniture rooms and a café. This exciting opening is part of a larger revitalization effort for the Metro North Mall site, aimed at creating a thriving community hub.
The buzz in Kansas City is all about the Furniture Mall of Missouri making its grand entrance into the Northland! The popular furniture retailer is stepping into the limelight by taking over the spacious 150,000 square feet of the soon-to-be-closed Macy’s store located at 400 NW Barry Road, Suite 150. With Macy’s hanging up its hat at the end of the month, Furniture Mall is ready to transform the space into something special!
As spring rolls in, so does a fresh wave of renovations starting on April 1st. Crews will be busy revamping the site and making it perfect for the new furniture wonderland, with an expected completion date set for the end of the year. What can we expect? A whopping over 1,000 furniture rooms that will leave you dreaming of new decor for your home! Plus, there’s talk of a charming café where customers can indulge in delicious custard and cookies while they shop. Can you say “sweet deal”?
This new store opening is part of a grand revitalization plan for the Metro North Mall site, which has seen better days. Originally opening its doors in 1976, the mall closed in 2014 after years of struggle. But hold on to your hats, Kansas City! The area is undergoing a transformation into the Metro North Crossing, a vibrant 106-acre mixed-use development, which is already home to cozy spots like Third Street Social, T-Shotz, and Hullhouse Coffee.
In a push to breathe life back into this part of town, Kansas City’s city council recently gave the green light to include the Macy’s site in a special community improvement district. With over $3 million earmarked just for the renovations of the Macy’s property, it’s safe to say there’s a significant investment in the area’s future. The Metro North Crossing project is estimated to cost more than $250 million overall, and to date, about $100 million has already been pumped into completed phases, which includes $60 million toward new apartments named Woodstone.
For Furniture Mall co-owner Jeff Winter, this move isn’t just about selling furniture; it’s about building connections within the community. By establishing roots in Northland, Furniture Mall aims to create a welcoming space for everyone, just like its other successful locations in Lee’s Summit and Olathe.
The opening of Furniture Mall in Northland marks the third major mall redevelopment helmed by IAS Partners, who have previously transformed the Antioch Center Mall and the Blue Ridge Mall. With their track record of success, there’s plenty of excitement surrounding what this new site will bring to the community!
As we count down to the exciting opening of Furniture Mall of Missouri in the Northland, we can hardly wait to walk through those doors into a new world of furniture and community. From the renovations kicking off in April to the launch later this year, there’s a lot to look forward to for Kansas City locals and visitors alike!
Stay tuned for more updates, and get ready to find your new favorite pieces to make your home truly yours at the newest Furniture Mall location!
