Kansas City Non-Profits Partner to Combat Food Insecurity and Provide Culinary Education

Partnership Announced to Tackle Food Insecurity in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A new alliance between two local non-profit organizations promises to address the pressing issue of food insecurity in the Kansas City area. NourishKC and The Prospect KC have joined forces to not only provide immediate food assistance but also to equip the community with essential culinary skills.

Combining Expertise for Greater Impact

NourishKC, a stalwart in the community since 1989, focuses on eliminating hunger and improving nutrition within neighborhoods. Meanwhile, The Prospect KC, founded by award-winning chef Shanita McAfee-Bryant, emphasizes food access, nutrition education, and culinary job training. This partnership aims to fuse their missions for a more significant community effect.

A Game-Changer for the Community

According to NourishKC Chairwoman Melanie Tull, “This partnership is a game-changer for our community. By joining forces with The Prospect KC, we blend our common agendas. We’re not simply feeding people—we’re empowering them with knowledge and skills to break the cycle of food insecurity.”

The collaborative effort will merge NourishKC’s meal programs with The Prospect KC’s nutritional education initiatives, creating a comprehensive approach to tackling food insecurity.

Immediate Launch of Joint Initiatives

The newly formed partnership is set to initiate programs and services right away, while both organizations will continue to operate their individual offerings without interruption. There are plans for expansion and enhancement in the coming months.

The Prospect KC will also run its catering commissary and culinary job training program from NourishKC’s community kitchen located at 750 Paseo Boulevard. Additionally, they will continue their collaboration with the Kansas City Library at The Nook inside the Central Library.

Focus on Workforce Development

Shanita McAfee-Bryant expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We’re excited to bring our workforce development experience to this partnership. Together with NourishKC, we’ll create opportunities beyond immediate food assistance, fostering long-term stability for individuals and families.”

This union not only reflects a commitment to addressing immediate needs but also symbolizes hope and empowerment for the Kansas City community at large.
