Exciting Changes Ahead for Pizza Lovers in Kansas City!

Kansas City, are you ready for some delectable news? In a big shake-up in the local dining scene, W. VinZant Restaurants has officially acquired the iconic Waldo Pizza! This announcement was made jointly by both parties in a press release Monday, and it’s hard not to feel a buzz of excitement in the air.

Stepping into New Shoes

The owner of the Kansas City-based restaurant group, Whitney VinZant, shared her enthusiasm about this latest acquisition. “We’re ecstatic to be the next steward of such a beloved restaurant and will carefully honor its traditions in the future,” VinZant said. It’s heartwarming to see that the spirit of Waldo Pizza will continue under new ownership, promising all the charm that fans have come to love over the years.

This acquisition is just the latest step in a busy year for W. VinZant Restaurants, who seem to be on a roll! This marks their third restaurant acquisition this year alone. Just think about it: they purchased Merchants Pub & Plate in Lawrence back in October, and in July, they took over the Country Club Plaza location of Bo Lings, with plans to rebrand it as Heritage – an exciting Asian-American fusion eatery.

A Local Favorite Continues

Waldo Pizza has been a staple in the Kansas City dining scene since its opening back in 1988 at 7433 Broadway St. The restaurant has a rich history, having been owned previously by Phil Bourne from 1993 until 2020 when Steve Kingery stepped in. Kingery, an employee since 2000, is staying on board with the restaurant through this ownership transition, so you can rest assured that the warm, familiar atmosphere that regulars adore will remain intact.

Kingery expressed his thoughts on the changeover, stating, “The things you know and love about Waldo Pizza will carry on, including re-opening on Mondays.” That’s right – your pizza cravings will be satisfied even on the first day of the week again! What a treat for local pizza enthusiasts!

Growth and Expertise

As part of the acquisition, W. VinZant Restaurants will provide Waldo Pizza with the support and expertise in areas that will take the pizzeria to the next level. This includes enhancements in employee and manager training and improved food and beverage procurement. Kingery noted that Waldo Pizza deserves this kind of backing to thrive, something it may not have had access to before.

He added, “The tremendous support from W. VinZant Restaurants will elevate Waldo Pizza in ways it hasn’t had before.” How great is it to see a local business not only survive but thrive, all while keeping its cherished traditions?

A Bright Future for Waldo Pizza

With the deal finally having been hammered out on December 9, Waldo Pizza is gearing up for what’s next. The combination of W. VinZant Restaurants’ diverse portfolio—which includes popular spots like Gram & Dun, BRGR Kitchen + Bar, Taco Republic, and Louie’s Wine Dive—along with the rich heritage of Waldo Pizza promises a bright future for this beloved local gem.

Inviting customers back into the fold, with support on the horizon, is a great move. Regulars and newcomers alike can look forward to enjoying their favorite pies with an enhanced experience that honors the essence of what Waldo Pizza is all about.

So, pizza aficionados of Kansas City, gear up and get ready! A new chapter is unfolding at Waldo Pizza, and you won’t want to miss a single bite!
