Unexpected Twister Strikes Shawnee
Residents were taken completely by surprise when an EF-1 tornado, packing winds of nearly 86-110 miles per hour, roared through the town of Shawnee on an otherwise calm day. Homes were damaged, trees were uprooted and power lines downed, causing outages for surrounding neighborhoods.
A Survivor’s First-Hand Account
A resident of Shawnee, who had an all-too-close encounter with the tornado, shares her chilling experience for the first time. “You could feel the pressure change in the house, the windows were vibrating, and then you could hear what sounded like a freight train coming,” she described.
The speed and force of the EF-1 tornado were overwhelming, leaving her little time to react. “I ran into the bathroom and then I heard the glass breaking. I was kind of in shock at first,” she recalls.
