Hey there, Kansas City! Get ready for an exciting opportunity to do some good for the planet this Earth Day. On April 22, from 6:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., you are invited to participate in a fantastic free E-Waste Recycling Event. This event is organized by two awesome community players: KCTV5 and 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Yes, you read that right! It’s a chance for you to recycle your old electronics and keep our surroundings a little cleaner and greener.

Where Do You Go?

The event will be held in the front parking lot of KCTV5, which is located at 4500 Shawnee Mission Parkway. Not sure where that is? No worries! It’s a well-known spot and easy to find. Drive on over, and when you arrive, you will see two big junk trucks ready to take in all your old electronics.

What Can You Bring?

So, what exactly can you recycle? All sorts of electronic items are welcome. Whether it’s an outdated laptop, a printer that hasn’t worked in ages, or any small electronics that clutter your home, feel free to bring them along! However, a quick heads-up: large box TVs will not be accepted, so keep that in mind while you rummage through your closets. Don’t worry about any confusion—there will be friendly workers on-site ready to help you with the recycling process!

Earth Day and You!

This e-waste event is perfectly timed, as it’s taking place on the same day we celebrate the 53rd Earth Day. First celebrated on April 22, 1970, Earth Day aims to promote environmental awareness and encouragement for all to engage in eco-friendly practices. This year’s national theme is all about renewable energy, under the slogan “Our Power, Our Planet.” What better way to contribute than to recycle your tech and give those gadgets a second life?

Getting into the Earth Day Spirit

But wait—Kansas City is buzzing with Earth Day activities all throughout April! Residents of Johnson County can participate in a range of exciting events. Over in Gardner, there’s an Earth Day/Arbor Day event scheduled for April 19, which features a community cleanup and a free hot dog lunch for hungry helpers! No need to starve while you clean up, right?

Fun Activities for Everyone!

On April 25, Leawood will be having its own Earth Day bash, complete with free tree seedlings and crafts at the Prairie Oak Nature Center. And for those in Lenexa, get ready for Cleanup Dumpster Days on April 19 and 20 at the Municipal Services Center, perfect for tossing out unwanted junk.

Also, the charming city of Mission is kicking off its Citywide Clean Up on April 26, starting with a yummy breakfast at Beverly Park. And let’s not forget Olathe, which is hosting a delightful Earth Day celebration at the Indian Creek Library on April 19, packed with games and crafts for the kids.

Neighborhood Cleanup Efforts

Volunteer opportunities abound as Overland Park gears up for its Stream Clean event to tidy up parks and waterways on April 19. They’re also organizing a construction debris drop-off and large appliance recycling for the same day, keeping things organized and environmentally friendly. Meanwhile, Spring Hill will host its own Daffodil Days celebration on April 26 with all sorts of nature-themed activities for families.

Time to Step Up!

Lastly, Roeland Park will have a city-wide litter clean-up at City Hall on April 19. With all these activities happening around the area, it’s a great time to jump in and do your part for the environment. If you’re dealing with old electronics, remember that companies like PayMore are also expanding in the Kansas City area, making it even easier to recycle responsibly.

So mark your calendars, gather your electronic waste, and get ready to help the planet at the Kansas City E-Waste Recycling Event. Let’s make this Earth Day one to remember!
