Beloved Tequila Hotspot The Drunken Worm Reopens with a Nostalgic Revamp and Grand Opening Planned for June 2024

The Drunken Worm Returns to its 39th Street Roots

A Fresh Start after Tumultuous Times

After a series of unfortunate events—closing, remodeling, and an unexplained halt in operations—the beloved tequila hotspot based in Volker, finally reopens. The Drunken Worm, located on W. 39th St, began soft opening services just yesterday at noon. The establishment intends to continue such events on their own terms, leading to a grand opening bash on June 10, 2024.

The abrupt closure last autumn took many by surprise. A social media post notifying the staff and customers about the sudden decision only added to the anxiety. The trouble came just after a year-long renovation in 2022 that transformed The Worm, merging it into the former home of Mo Brew. The same brand, Krown Concepts, manages fellow venues, The Levee and John’s Big Deck.

A Revamp Nostalgia

Former bartenders from The Worm, Courtney Yager and Levi Keefer, have united with owner Ronald Struminger to breathe new life into the establishment. The revival strategy emphasizes returning the business to its original spirit. This means the original chef who created the inaugural menu is back at work. The familiar dimly-lit decor, high on maximalist aesthetics, is back. Even the main entrance has been shifted back to the middle of the block, ditching the expansive Mo Brew doors on the corner. Weekend brunch, much missed by regulars, is also back on the table.

Keep Tabs on the Worm
