Dense Fog Advisory for Missouri and Kansas: What You Need to Know!

Attention residents of Missouri and Kansas! If you’re planning to hit the road today, you might want to be extra cautious. A dense fog advisory was put into effect early Wednesday morning at 12:38 a.m., and it’s causing some serious visibility issues in various parts of the area. This advisory affects numerous counties including Miami, Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Worth, Gentry, De Kalb, Clinton, Platte, Clay, Jackson, and Cass.

What’s Happening?

The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning folks that visibility could dip to an alarming one-quarter mile or less in regions experiencing the fog. This is especially true in east central and northeast Kansas, along with northwest and west central Missouri. As you can imagine, driving conditions are becoming hazardous under such circumstances.

The advisory is set to remain in effect until noon today, so if you were hoping to navigate the roads for errands, commutes, or even holiday travel plans, you might want to reconsider those plans.

Safety First!

slow down, make sure to turn their headlights on, and keep a good distance between vehicles. Cities such as Springfield, Rolla, Camdenton, Overland Park, Kansas City, and Lawrence are among those particularly affected by this thick blanket of fog.

Morning Commutes and Travel Plans

This is particularly troubling news for anyone who needs to get to work or has plans to travel during the holiday season. As the visibility reduces, morning commutes could take longer than usual. Emergency officials are advising folks to avoid unnecessary travel while this advisory is in effect.

Previous Advisory Warning

It’s worth noting that an earlier advisory was issued on Tuesday night at 9:29 p.m. for several of the same counties, warning of fog conditions until 11:30 p.m. That previous advisory highlighted areas where visibility was already reported to be below one mile. Now, with this ongoing advisory, major cities in central and northeast Kansas along with parts of Missouri, including Topeka, Manhattan, and Lawrence, are braving through the fog.

Be Prepared and Patient

Emergency officials are emphasizing the importance of preparedness and patience while traveling in these foggy conditions. If you find that you absolutely must travel, please take those extra safety precautions to ensure your safety and the safety of others on the road.
