Kansas City, MO — In the early hours of Saturday morning, the police were called to investigate a **potentially connected deadly shooting** and crash that has left the community on edge.

Incident Overview

At around **4 a.m.**, Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers arrived at **12th Street and Benton Boulevard** after receiving reports of a **non-injury accident**. When they got there, they found an abandoned vehicle that had been **involved in a crash**. However, upon further inspection, officers noted signs of **possible gunshot activity** within the car, sparking concern that someone might have been injured inside.

Search for Victims

The police began searching the area for potential victims and were led behind a nearby apartment building. There, they discovered a man lying unresponsive with **gunshot wounds**. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called, but sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Identifying the Victim

The victim has been identified as **20-year-old Michael B. Waylee**. Preliminary investigations indicated that the crash reportedly occurred on **westbound 12th Street** shortly after **1 a.m.** The vehicle involved was speeding when it **sideswiped another car**, lost control, and crashed into a parked vehicle prior to the incident.

Searching for Answers

Detectives are currently looking into whether there is a connection between the shooting and a reported shooting that took place around **1 a.m.** near **12th Street and Hardesty Avenue**. In that incident, another man was discovered with **non-life-threatening injuries** and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities are probing to determine the relationship between the two events.
