The exciting new interior of Cosmo Burger's Crossroads location.
Kansas City’s beloved burger joint, Cosmo Burger, is moving to a new standalone location in the Crossroads district. The Lenexa Public Market spot will close on April 19, with a pop-up service starting April 20 at Dodson’s Bar. The new restaurant at 1813 Locust St. is set to open in May, featuring an expanded menu, a bar-like atmosphere, and a variety of unique offerings like the ‘Goober Burger’.
If you’re a burger lover in Kansas City, there’s some exciting news you’re going to want to sink your teeth into! Cosmo Burger, the beloved burger joint known for its mouth-watering creations, is on the move. The popular eatery will be leaving its home at the Lenexa Public Market for a brand-new standalone spot in the heart of the Crossroads district.
Since its grand debut in 2020, Cosmo Burger has quickly made a name for itself in the local culinary scene, earning accolades as one of the city’s top restaurants and smashburger establishments. It all began with Chef and owner Jacob Kruger, who started serving his delicious burgers from Dodson’s Bar in Waldo. The venture expanded and set up shop at the Lenexa Public Market in 2022, but with growth comes opportunity, and now it’s time to take the next bold step.
Shifting gears, the Lenexa Public Market location will officially shut its doors on April 19. But don’t fret—if you’re craving a Cosmo Burger fix, you won’t have to wait too long. From April 20, a pop-up lunch service will kick off at the Waldo location inside Dodson’s Bar and Commons at 7438 Wornall Road, extending your burger bliss until the new location opens its doors.
So where can you find this exciting new addition? Cosmo Burger’s new digs will be located at 1813 Locust St. in the Crossroads. Anticipated to open sometime in May, though the exact date is still a mystery, the new restaurant is a work in progress. It’s currently undergoing renovations to transform a light industrial space into a vibrant dining experience that fits the bustling vibe of the Crossroads.
Be prepared for some delicious changes! The new Cosmo Burger location plans to roll out an expanded menu that will include not just their famous burgers but also enticing milkshakes, tasty fries, and limited-time specialty offerings. One highlight we can’t wait to try is the creatively named “Goober Burger,” which will come topped with peanut butter and jalapeño jam—definitely a treat for the adventurous eater!
But that’s not all; this new spot will also feature a bar-like atmosphere that’s perfect for hanging out with friends or grabbing a quick bite after work. With a limited table service setup provided by bartenders, you can enjoy delicious cocktails and a variety of beers while indulging in your favorite comfort food.
As for operating hours, here’s what to expect: Cosmo Burger plans to serve guests from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, with extended hours until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Whether it’s a casual lunch or a late-night burger binge, they’ve got you covered!
While Jacob Kruger has expressed some bittersweet feelings about leaving the Lenexa location, there’s an air of excitement as he reaches his goal of opening a standalone restaurant in such a vibrant area. The owners of Cosmo Burger, 916 Hospitality, are even considering future expansion plans based on how well the new location performs.
And guess what? It’s not just Cosmo Burger who’s on the move. Other local favorites are expanding their horizons as well. Urban Egg, a celebrated breakfast chain, is eyeing a new location in Northland, set to make breakfast dreams come true by year-end. Plus, Blackhole Bakery is also gearing up to open its second location in the West Plaza Antique District, famous for its delicious mochi donuts and pastries.
