City Barrel Brewery, a well-known name for beer enthusiasts, celebrated the grand opening of its second location – City Barrel Pizza + Patio – in Waldo on Friday, June 28. The pizza parlor and taproom now occupies the former taproom location of Bier Station at 120 E. Gregory Boulevard.
Founders Joe Giammanco and James Stutsman believe that their new addition is a perfect match for the Brookside/Waldo area, a neighborhood they’re proud to call home.
An unexpected yet pleasing offer from Giammanco persuaded Bier Station founder John Couture to sell the space and its building. With a decade-long experience in the restaurant and bar business, Couture saw this as an opportunity for a fresh start, passing the torch to Giammanco, who assured him of maintaining the local vibe integral to Bier Station’s identity.
As Couture now steps into the beverage delivery service industry with Local Liquid, he expresses his excitement to soon sit at the bar as a customer, savoring the beers and pizzas that City Barrel Pizza + Patio offers.
City Barrel Brewery’s original East Crossroads location serves a diverse range of dishes – from burgers, shawarmas, fish and chips to wings, appetizers, and salads. However, the focus at their new Waldo venue is singularly on pizzas, inspired by New York’s pizza culture.
Offering traditional pepperoni, sausage, and cheese pizzas, the restaurant also allows customers the freedom to experiment with their own pizza creations. Specialties include the mushroom, BBQ chicken, jalapeno popper, and chicken bacon ranch pizzas. The surprise element, however, is the Krab Rangoon pizza and the Mac Daddy pizza, both of which promise an interesting play of flavors that are out of the ordinary.
Perfectly complimenting the food menu is the bar menu featuring a wide selection of craft beer. City Barrel not only showcases its popular Rad AF New England IPA and High Society American Lager but also introduces exclusive beers at each of its locations.
While the new City Barrel location retains the fundamental structure of Bier Station, it presents a revamped appeal with updated seating, a new color scheme, and a refined kitchen. The restaurant promises brisk, attentive, and friendly service to its customers, aiming to be the go-to destination in Waldo for beer and pizza lovers.
Former patrons of Bier Station will find the revamped space comfortable and a flashback to the good old days. Even new customers will find the place inviting and worthy of not just one but many more visits.
Passionate about their new venture, the founders of City Barrel hope to offer their customers more than just food and drinks. And if their dedication and enthusiasm are anything to go by, City Barrel Pizza + Patio is destined to be a local hotspot for years to come.
