KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Exciting Changes Ahead at Children’s Mercy
In a big development for pediatric healthcare in the Midwest, Children’s Mercy Kansas City has just announced that Dr. Alejandro Quiroga will take the helm as the new president and CEO starting January 2, 2025. This decision promises to bring fresh energy and experience to one of the top children’s hospitals in the nation.
Who Is Dr. Alejandro Quiroga?
Dr. Quiroga isn’t just any leader; he comes with a wealth of experience, having most recently served as the president of Corewell Health, which is the largest healthcare system in Michigan. His past roles included overseeing the renowned Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, along with nine other hospitals and more than 120 outpatient sites. During his time there, he didn’t just focus on administration; he also led the largest teaching hospital associated with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
When asked about his new role, Dr. Quiroga expressed his excitement, saying, “This is a dream come true. I am truly honored to join this amazing team at Children’s Mercy.” He has watched the hospital from afar, and his admiration for the excellence in pediatric clinical care and cutting-edge research has been palpable.
A Community-Centered Approach
What makes Quiroga’s approach particularly special is his deep commitment to both patient care and community engagement. His leadership at Corewell Health was marked by remarkable enhancements in patient experience, strengthening employee retention, and fostering a strong culture of trust and inclusion. These qualities align well with the mission at Children’s Mercy, which aims to create a world of well-being for every child they serve.
Dr. Quiroga is not just bringing a robust resume to his new role but also a warm and welcoming attitude. He shared his eagerness to contribute to a place that is both compassionate and forward-thinking and looks forward to connecting with the Kansas City community. “Together, we will continue to live out the purpose of Children’s Mercy,” he remarked with enthusiasm.
What Has Been Said?
Diane Gallagher, the Board Chair for Children’s Mercy, couldn’t be more thrilled about this new chapter. She commented, “We knew Dr. Quiroga was the ideal choice for Children’s Mercy. He stood out for his impressive experience and a spirit of humility, optimism, and deep passion for caring for children.” It sounds like the board is genuinely excited about what the future holds under his leadership!
Looking Back and Moving Forward
The search for a new CEO began back in May when the previous president, Paul Kempinski, announced his retirement after six years of dedicated service. As the hospital gears up for this transition, there’s a sense of optimism that the community will continue to receive exceptional care, backed by a new wave of innovative leadership.
Dr. Quiroga’s arrival also signals a commitment to the groundbreaking research and clinical care that Children’s Mercy is known for. His leadership experience and his passion for helping children could be the perfect combination to take this storied institution into the next chapter.
Community Support
As Quiroga and his family prepare to make their move, the Kansas City community stands ready to welcome them with open arms. It’s always heartwarming to see new leaders come into communities with fresh ideas and a genuine commitment to making a difference.
One thing’s for sure: all eyes will be on Children’s Mercy Kansas City as Dr. Quiroga steps into his role. With a mission so vital to the community, the hope is that he will continue to nurture a spirit of compassion and excellence for the children and families they serve!
