Tragic Car Crash in Kansas City Leaves One Dead, One Critically Injured
Kansas City, Mo. — In a devastating incident late Saturday evening, a car crash on the Truman Road bridge over Manchester Trafficway resulted in one fatality and one critical injury. The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) reported that the accident occurred around 7 p.m. on August 31, 2024.
Details of the Incident
Authorities stated that the crash involved two vehicles—a white Chevrolet HHR and a gray Nissan Altima—both of which were stalled on the inside lane due to mechanical problems. As the drivers waited for assistance, the situation took a tragic turn.
According to KCPD, while the driver of the Chevrolet moved to the passenger seat, the driver of the Nissan was standing outside their vehicle, with their passenger remaining inside without a seatbelt. Suddenly, a black Jeep Grand Cherokee came speeding west on Truman Road and failed to navigate around the stalled cars. Instead, it collided with the rear of the Nissan Altima.
Immediate Aftermath
The force of the impact pushed the Nissan into the back of the Chevrolet, seriously injuring the Nissan driver who was standing outside. Sadly, the passenger in the Nissan did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Nissan driver is currently hospitalized in “very critical condition,” according to police reports.
Search for the Suspect
In a troubling turn, the driver of the Jeep fled the scene immediately after the crash. KCPD is actively investigating the situation and appealing to the public for information that could lead to the suspect’s identification and capture.
