Continued Car Break-Ins Cause Unrest in Midtown KCMO

Residents Wake Up to a Rash of Car Burglaries

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Wednesday, fragments of broken glass and smashed windows crystallized the trend of ongoing car break-ins in another neighborhood of midtown Kansas City. Residents report to our team that nearly 26 cars along East 34th Terrace and Gillham Road had their windows shattered during this latest criminal spree.

Tony Albetta, a local resident, conveyed his exasperation, noting this was the third incident where his car has been broken into. “You drive down this street at night, and it glitters with fragments of broken car windows,” lamented Albetta, expressing his fear and frustration. He feels that the security situation has depreciated to the point where he fears leaving his car unattended.

Devastating Consequences of Break-Ins for Locals

Another resident, Daniel Perry, had parked his car inside a gated lot. Yet, his vehicle was not spared from the break-ins. “It’s preposterous,” Perry stated. “I was unable to make it to work due to the unexpected window repairs. I sincerely hope that law enforcement will apprehend the perpetrator soon as the level of damage he is causing is massive.”

Limited Police Resources Amid Ongoing Crime

KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez acknowledged the issue while explaining the stretched resources of the department. “We don’t want anyone to think this isn’t important to us,” Officer Gonazalez assured. “However, violent crimes often demand immediate attention and therefore swift redirection of our resources. Nevertheless, every reported incident is assigned a detective.”

Victims Encouraged to Provide Evidence

Officer Gonzalez urged residents to share any information or footage relevant to these incidents, assuring residents that even the seemingly insignificant details could prove finding the missing piece of the puzzle in solving the case.

Information is Vital in Solving Cases

She encouraged everyone to share any relevant information—be it from security cameras, personal footage, or witness descriptions. “Your little bit of information could be the missing puzzle piece we need to solve a case,” she expressed. She urged the public to report incidents, no matter how minor they may seem.

Is there anything the local community can do to help?

For now, residents have been advised to be vigilant. Any suspicious activity should be reported to the authorities promptly. Community members are also encouraged to install security cameras and alarms as precautionary measures.
