Sarah Brown, the creative mind behind Blair & Blythe, noticed a gap in the market. After spending years working in retail in Texas, she observed that the South is gifted at entertaining guests, with their artful table settings and attention to detail. She thought to herself, “Wouldn’t it be great to bring that kind of hosting culture here to Kansas City?” And bring it she did!

Through her online store, which launched three years ago, Brown started selling elevated tabletop items — think fine china, stylish flatware, chic drinkware, and everything you could need for a fabulous dinner party. Her collection also includes lovely cocktail and dinner napkins, trendy tablecloths, and even charming candleholders. Not to mention the addition of stationery, lamps, and even furniture pieces like swivel chairs and rattan coffee tables.

From Online to Physical Space

The incredible response from shoppers online led Brown and her husband to think bigger: a brick-and-mortar store! They recently purchased a two-story, nearly 6,000-square-foot building at 4812 Rainbow Blvd. in Westwood. This magnificent building, which has seen some history as a setting for Ambience Furs, is currently undergoing renovations, and it’s shaping up to be a dream come true for Brown.

“It’s a very old building, built in 1930, and we are giving it new life,” Brown shared. With her background as a professional counselor, this renovation provides a fresh creative outlet that sparked her passion for Blair & Blythe in the first place. Brown is pouring her heart and soul into this project, with plans for a redesigned floor plan and even a consultation room for design lovers.

Keeping an Eye on the Clock

While an exact opening date hasn’t been announced just yet, Brown is hard at work tying up final inspections and touches to prepare for the big debut.
