Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested in Kansas City

Kansas City, Mo. has seen its fair share of crime this summer, but one notorious figure, Marquise L. North, 30, is now behind bars after a series of armed robberies rattled the community. His arrest comes as a relief to many residents who have been following the unsettling incidents closely.

The Series of Events

The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department reported that the string of robberies led authorities to North, who is linked to multiple incidents in both Kansas and Missouri. The most recent robbery occurred on the evening of September 21 at the Dollar General located near 43rd and Troost Avenue. At around 8:45 p.m., emergency crews responded to reports of an armed robbery at the store. Upon arrival, they discovered a shaken female cashier who detailed a harrowing encounter.

The cashier explained that North had entered the store under the guise of shopping, picking up a blanket before making his way to the register. It was here that he allegedly pointed a handgun at her, demanding access to the cash drawer. Scared for her life, the cashier complied, handing over the money without hesitation. Little did North know, a tracking device was cleverly secured to the bottom of that cash drawer.

The Chase

As law enforcement began their pursuit, they spotted North leaving the scene in a 2003 Toyota Matrix. When they attempted to stop him, he evaded capture and led officers on a thrilling chase reaching speeds up to 63 mph along Rockhill Road. Adding to the drama, North was seen tossing cash out the window as he sped away—talk about an unusual way to disperse stolen money! In total, law officials managed to recover approximately $85 along with the tracking device that had been attached to the cash drawer.

After a strategic use of stop sticks near 63rd and Rockhill Road, North’s vehicle was finally brought to a halt. However, he didn’t give up easily and bolted from the car on foot. It was a breathtaking scene as law enforcement chased him down, eventually apprehending him behind a nearby gas station.

Connecting the Dots

The investigation that followed revealed that North wasn’t just a one-time offender. He allegedly committed at least two other robberies—as mentioned earlier, one in Kansas and another in Missouri. Surveillance footage from each crime scene showed him and his recognizable Toyota, making it clear this was not the debut of his criminal endeavors.

Despite the mountain of evidence against him, North has denied all allegations, maintaining his innocence. As of Friday, September 27, he has been officially charged with two counts of robbery in the first degree concerning the Missouri robberies. His bond has been set at an impressive $50,000.

What’s Next?

Residents are hoping for justice as North awaits further court proceedings. A bond review hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1 and a preliminary hearing is slated for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23. Until then, it looks like the people of Kansas City can breathe a little easier knowing that this particular suspect is off the streets. As always, it’s important for the community to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.

While this incident has been alarming, it serves as a reminder to remain vigilant and look out for one another in our beloved city. Law enforcement is working hard to keep our community safe, and this recent arrest is a step in the right direction.
