Kansas City Welcomes New AC Hotel Downtown, Revitalizing Historic Rialto Building

Welcome to Kansas City: A Glimpse into the New AC Hotel Downtown

Kansas City is buzzing with excitement as a brand new hotel has opened its doors in the heart of downtown. The AC Hotel Kansas City Downtown officially welcomed guests on October 10th, breathing fresh life into one of the city’s historic buildings—the Rialto Building, also fondly known as the Ozark National Life Building. What’s fascinating about this location isn’t just its recent makeover; it has a rich history that dates back over 130 years!

A Journey Through Time

The Rialto Building started its journey as a hub for over a hundred physicians, dentists, and various other professionals back in 1887. It also housed a few stores and even a barber shop. But like many great stories, this one has its share of drama. In the early hours of December 23, 1909, an explosion echoed through the building, signaling the start of a devastating fire. A quick-thinking janitor bravely rushed through the smoke to alert sleeping tenants, but sadly, the flames took down the original structure. However, undeterred, the owners rebuilt, and by 1912, the present-day building rose from the ashes.

Modern Comforts in a Historic Space

Now, let’s talk about what makes the new AC Hotel a remarkable blend of old and new. With 239 rooms available at rates typically ranging from $189 to $229 a night, the hotel is primarily aimed at business travelers and groups. Corey Napier, the director of sales and marketing, shared that the hotel features a sleek design inspired by geometric patterns, with a color palette that emphasizes calming gray tones accented by sharp white touches.

One particularly interesting feature is how the hotel was designed to give every guest room a window. To achieve this, contractors ingeniously cut a shaft in the center of the building, allowing natural light to flood in. Isn’t that a clever way to enhance the guest experience while respecting the building’s architectural integrity?

Facilities to Meet Every Need

The AC Hotel Kansas City Downtown strives to cater to both business and leisure travelers with a variety of facilities. There are seven meeting rooms equipped to handle everything from conferences to social gatherings. Plus, a state-of-the-art fitness room is available for those who like to fit in a workout, no matter how busy their schedule. And let’s not forget about the 24-hour coffee bar, perfect for those moments when a caffeine boost is needed, whether it’s early morning or late at night!

Another AC Hotel in the City

This new hotel is actually the second location of the AC Hotel brand in Kansas City. The first one can be found over on Westport Road. Both locations echo the brand’s commitment to quality and modern comfort while seamlessly blending with Kansas City’s unique charm.

As the AC Hotel Kansas City Downtown opens its doors, it stands as a testament to how the city honors its past while embracing the future. Whether you’re a local or a visitor stopping by, there’s no better way to experience the charm of Kansas City than by staying in one of its historic gems.
