Kansas City Traffic Update: A Look at Recent Incidents
Hey there, Kansas City! Hope you’re doing well in this bustling city. Whether you’re heading out for a fun night downtown or just commuting to work, we know that traffic can sometimes throw a wrench in our plans. So, here’s the scoop on some of the recent traffic incidents that have been keeping our streets lively (for better or worse).
Accidents and Delays on the Highways
First off, let’s talk about a collision on Custer Avenue. It happened between the Southwest Boulevard exit 233 and I-35 South. The unfortunate event affected around 240 feet of roadway, which can really slow things down. The alert first went out on Saturday around 11:22 PM, and the last update we got was just after midnight on Sunday.
Another incident caught our attention on the Jay B. Dillingham Freeway between exit 2T and I-35 North. A crash occurred late Saturday night, noticeably affecting 40 feet of traffic space. The report popped up around 11:57 PM with an update shortly thereafter at 12:06 AM on Sunday.
Liberty’s Rough Roads
If you were cruising near Liberty, you might have noticed a crash that blocked about 610 feet of the northbound lanes between MO-291 and I-35/MO-33. This report came in on Saturday at around 9:11 PM and was updated shortly after at 9:23 PM.
And, for those traveling on I-35, there was another crash reported between Liberty Drive/Exit 14 and MO-152/Exit 16. This incident stretched approximately 420 feet and was first relayed at 8:42 PM on Saturday, with updates following soon after.
Vehicle Troubles Along the Highways
There has also been a broken vehicle causing some frustration on northbound I-35 in Mission. This broken down car is nestled between Antioch Road/Exit 230 and I-635/Exit 231, blocking up about 90 feet of space. The call regarding this issue came in just before lunchtime on Saturday at 11:25 AM, with updates trickling in by 6:18 PM.
A similar situation arose on eastbound I-70 where another car gave out between U P RR Service Road and I-670/I-70, impacting about 180 feet of traffic. This report was flagged around 11:10 PM and updated by early Sunday morning.
Weather Woes and Road Closures
Weather plays a big role in keeping our roads safe, and it’s not always cooperating! Heavy rain had its share of effects Saturday, causing a traffic advisory on westbound I-70 in Independence. The advisory warned drivers of hazardous conditions along a stretch of 1.31 miles. A similar advisory for hazardous driving conditions was issued on southbound I-29/I-35 in North Kansas City, impacting 1.56 miles of road. It looks like Mother Nature has been keeping everyone on their toes!
Looking Ahead
As of our last check, some road closures are still in effect—like the one on Raytown Road and I-435 South, which was reported late Saturday evening. Plus, there was a lane closure on southbound I-435 in Shawnee, covering a stretch of .52 miles from Shawnee Mission Parkway/Exit 6 to 87th Street/Exit 3.
So, Kansas City, remember to drive carefully and stay updated with real-time alerts! The roads can be tricky, but with a little bit of patience and awareness, we can all navigate them much more smoothly. Until next time, stay safe out there!
