Kansas City: A Culinary Journey Through Tacos and Sushi Delights

Kansas City: A Foodie Adventure Awaits!

This past Saturday, my friends and I decided to hit the streets of Kansas City and enjoy a leisurely walk around the vibrant River Market. After a bustling week filled with work commitments and social obligations, it felt great to unwind and catch up. With laughter in the air and good company by my side, we meandered through the market, soaking in the sights and sounds that made this area so special.

After covering some interesting ground and undoubtedly burning a few calories, our stomachs began to growl, sending us on a quest for the perfect meal. Avoiding a looming 30-minute wait at a nearby restaurant, we opted for something a bit more spontaneous and headed to the Kansas City Taco Company—a delightful, laid-back spot that we had yet to explore. Little did we know, we were in for a treat!

A Tantalizing Taco Trio

As soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted by a fun and lively atmosphere. With our stomachs rumbling and decisions to be made, we wasted no time getting to the ordering part!

I decided to go big with a trio of tacos, each offering a unique burst of flavor. First up was the Portobello Shroom Taco at $5.99. This vegan wonder featured lightly tempura-fried portobello mushrooms resting on a bed of crisp Baja slaw. The addition of creamy avocado and roasted garlic aioli took this taco to the next level—definitely a standout that satisfied my cravings.

Next, I couldn’t resist the tantalizing Thai Chili Shrimp Taco for $6.99. Lightly fried shrimp paired with Baja slaw and a sprinkle of jack cheese was a match made in heaven. The roasted garlic-infused Thai chili sauce added just the right amount of spice, making it super flavorful and perfect for those looking for a gluten-free option.

Rounding out my taco trio was the Roasted Cauliflower Taco, also priced at $6.99. With garlic-roasted cauliflower seasoned with authentic Portuguese spices and wrapped in a cheese-encrusted flour tortilla, this taco was a comforting yet bold choice. Topped with a dash of mild sriracha aioli, it made the decision of a favorite taco practically impossible!

Even though I opted out of their popular margaritas this time—self-control for the win!—I’m already daydreaming about returning to try those drinks that everyone raves about. The Kansas City Taco Company can be found at 528 Walnut St, Kansas City, MO 64106, and it’s definitely worth a visit!

Sushi Cravings Satisfied at Blue Sushi Sake Grill

Later, after feeling that bliss of taco satisfaction, I continued my culinary adventures at an all-time favorite, Blue Sushi Sake Grill. Known for its vibrant décor and electric atmosphere, this Omaha-based eatery in downtown Kansas City never fails to captivate my foodie spirit. My girlfriend and I decided it was finally time to indulge during their impressive happy hour that runs Monday through Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m.

Sushi and Sips

As we browsed the happy hour menu, each more tempting than the last, my girlfriend kicked things off with a House Lime Margarita priced at just $6. A touch sweet and pleasantly tangy, it was the perfect precursor to our sushi feast!

For her sushi selection, she chose the Cherry Bomb for $8. This visually stunning dish showcased two servings of bigeye tuna atop crispy rice tempura, garnished with serrano, sriracha, togarashi, and a drizzle of ponzu sauce. Trust me; the combination of flavors is always a showstopper!

As for my hearty appetite, I went all in with the Spicy Sake Roll at $8, which featured spicy salmon and cucumber served in five delicious pieces. But let’s be honest—no visit to Blue Sushi is complete without indulging in the Yellowtail Serrano sashimi for $10. The Dutch yellowtail topped with fresh cilantro, serrano, and a splash of ponzu sauce truly is a flavor explosion that dances on your taste buds.

Never one to pass up more deliciousness, I also had to get my hands on the Godzilla Bomb from the regular menu. This impressive dish—made with tempura blue kani, bigeye tuna, yellowtail, togarashi, serrano, ponzu sauce, and sriracha—was elegantly piled into eight mouthwatering pieces. Sushi lovers, take note!

After a delightful evening filled with scrumptious bites and revitalizing drinks, we left Blue Sushi feeling utterly satisfied and ready to embrace whatever lights the night might bring. Whether cozying up with movies or enjoying peaceful conversations at home, it turned our happy hour into a truly happy evening.

If you’re looking to explore some delightful dining options in Kansas City, keep Kansas City Taco Company and Blue Sushi Sake Grill on your radar. You won’t regret it!
