Kansas City Man Caught in Credit Card Fraud Scheme
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In a shocking turn of events, a 29-year-old man named Avion Brown has been hit with multiple fraud charges after allegedly swiping credit cards from vehicles across several cities. Reports indicate that Brown is facing four felony counts of fraudulent use of a credit device, raising significant concern in the community.

According to Sgt. Chris Depue from the Lee’s Summit Police Department, Brown’s string of thefts has spanned over a dozen incidents, resulting in the theft of 19 different credit cards out of a troubling 31 reported incidents. It’s believed that he targeted cars parked in various locations, including Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Overland Park, and Paola, creating a patchy map of theft.
Last week, Brown was apprehended right outside a Walmart off Bolger Road after an alert employee recognized him and notified an off-duty police officer. It seems Brown attempted to flee when he spotted the authorities but was unsuccessful. Upon his arrest, officers discovered multiple credit cards that did not belong to him, some of which had been pilfered from cars parked at places like Legacy Park and the Paragon Star Sports Complex.

Sgt. Depue noted that initially, police had reported thefts occurring at Lake Jacomo and various recreational facilities, which seemed to be targets for potential thieves. The investigation revealed that since March, Brown had been caught on surveillance cameras making numerous purchases with stolen credit and debit cards. Some of these transactions took place in well-known spots like Swope Park and another Walmart located in Paola.
This isn’t Brown’s first encounter with the law. Court documents reveal that he has been a suspect in nine different fraud cases associated with the Lee’s Summit Police Department, as well as theft investigations in Leawood and Overland Park. His previous history includes a guilty verdict for theft and credit card misuse back in 2014 in Johnson County, and just two months ago, he pleaded guilty to similar offenses in Boone County.
