Hawaiian Bros Island Grill Set to Revival Vacant Manhattan Building

Manhattan city may soon see a new eatery occupying the vacant Panera Bread building. Hawaiian Bros Island Grill, a popular Kansas City, Mo.-based chain, has announced plans to make this site their home.

Anticipation Builds for Hawaiian Bros’ Arrival

Residents of Manhattan have anxiously been waiting for hints at what would fill the spot at 325 E. Poyntz Ave. since 2022. That year, Hawaiian Bros Island Grill submitted plans to the city government to set up shop in the vacant building. However, since these initial plans, the former Panera Bread site sat quiet, with no visible changes taking place.

Last week, however, brought fresh excitement to the community. Passerby noticed a “coming soon” sign prominently displayed in front of the building. The sign also invited interested job seekers to apply online at workathbros.com. Although the website lists a Manhattan location, no specific job openings were posted as of Monday morning.

Hawaiian Bros Expands Kansas Presence

While restaurant officials remain unavailable for comment, Pottawatomie County records confirm that Hawaiian Bros owns the property at 325 E. Poyntz Ave. If the plan pushes through, this new location will join the chain’s five other locations in Kansas, which are located in Lawrence and the Kansas City metro area.

Additional Expansion Plans

Alongside its Manhattan venture, Hawaiian Bros Island Grill has been actively extending its reach across the United States. In 2023, the restaurant chain announced a partnership with a franchisee to open 75 additional locations throughout Arizona and North Texas. Since then, branches have begun opening in Phoenix and Lubbock.

Prospective Manhattan Venue Well-Received by Community

The potential arrival of a Hawaiian Bros Island Grill in Manhattan has been met with great enthusiasm from local residents. The chain is known for its authentic island-inspired dishes, and many look forward to experiencing Hawaiian Bros’ unique blend of flavorful cuisine and laid-back, Island-style dining experience.

This possible new addition to Manhattan’s restaurant scene is a promising development. The rejuvenation of the presently vacant Panera Bread building will not only provide locals with a new dining choice, but also create job opportunities and contribute to the city’s thriving culinary industry.
