Made in KC is Kansas City’s best destination for handcrafted items, gifts, clothing, and more. Made in KC started in May 2015 to provide a platform for local Kansas City artists and manufacturers to connect clients in Overland Park. Made in KC aims to bring exposure and access to the larger metro region because many of the city’s artists, designers, and manufacturers are centered around midtown and Kansas City’s burgeoning Crossroads sector. The Prairiefire store in Overland Park was an immediate success, prompting the opening of a second location in the Village at Briarcliff in North Kansas City in October 2015.
Made in KC was able to add a third site in Prairie Village at Corinth Square by the spring of 2016 and began two new collaborations with HMK on the Country Club Plaza and Hallmark in Crown Center. Made in KC established its fourth retail facility in the Crossroads and the first Made in KC Cafe in the Downtown area in the winter of 2017. In the summer of 2018, the Made in KC Marketplace on the Country Club Plaza opened, showcasing distinctive exhibitors in specially created spaces, as well as the second Made in KC Cafe and first bar.
Made in KC began as a pop-up shop with 13 artists and has since expanded to include work by over 300 local artists, designers, and manufacturers. Made in KC seeks to provide a strong platform for local small businesses to reach clients throughout the Kansas City metro region, with nine locations and four sibling concepts. We provide marketers with access to geographically and demographically diverse locations with a single alliance.
Made in KC selects its products from hundreds of submissions and works with brands to help them through partnerships, relationships, and resources. Our artists create or design their products in the Kansas City metro area and may source some aspects of their products outside of Kansas City when a non-local option is unavailable or too expensive. We continually aim to expand our vendor and resource network so that we can not only assist brands increase their sales but also establish a more sustainable business.
We have a lot of interesting initiatives in the works, such as gift baskets for significant local companies looking to attract new talent or welcome new visitors to the city we love. This is only one example of how we want to serve our brands.
