Exciting Developments in Greater Kansas City!

Greater Kansas City is buzzing with enthusiasm as the Centurions Alumni Association takes meaningful strides to empower its community. Since the year 2021, this association has been on a mission, awarding the Alumni Legacy Scholarship to remarkable individuals stepping into their first year as Centurions. Their goal? To foster equity in diverse communities by supporting Black, Indigenous, or People of Color.

Creating Opportunities through Scholarships

The Alumni Legacy Scholarship is more than just financial assistance; it’s a commitment to dismantling structural racism by opening doors to access and opportunities within the business realm. For recipients, this scholarship covers a comprehensive list of essentials, including full tuition, Benchmarking Trip Fees, and Basic Chamber Membership costs for the entirety of the two-year program.

Those interested should mark their calendars! The application deadline for the Centurions Alumni Legacy Scholarship is set for 11:59 p.m. on June 1, 2025. Successful applicants will be notified of their status by June 6, 2025, paving the way for the full Centurions selection process.

Community Conversations for Everyone

In addition to scholarships, the Centurions are also passionate about fostering dialogue within the community. They are hosting a series of engaging community conversations titled “Crucial Conversations: Reality of Now & How Leaders Can Step Up”. This initiative will highlight the challenges faced by immigrant and refugee communities, creating a platform for education and actionable steps that support these groups. Best of all? The event is free and open to the public!

Mark March 14 in your planner because it’s going to be an important date. An Information Session for the Centurions Leadership Program will take place at Mazuma Credit Union from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. This two-year program is dedicated to building community awareness through civic engagement and aims to prepare a diverse group of emerging leaders to shape the future of Greater Kansas City.

Panel Talks and Community Events

Another noteworthy highlight on the horizon is a panel discussion that will delve into the intersection of mental health and homelessness in the metro area, focusing on community-driven solutions. This event promotes understanding and looks for innovative strategies to tackle these pressing issues.

In the spirit of connection and celebration, a free community event is set to take place at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Attendees will have the chance to enrich their knowledge of history while mingling with fellow members of the community.

Let’s not forget about social gatherings! An informal coffee gathering for Apex Centurions is scheduled for February 19 at The Roasterie in Woodside. Plus, a festive St. Patrick’s Day Kickoff Lunch will be hosted by Apex’s Social Committee right on March 14, where food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Insightful Discussions and Important Updates

Moreover, a dynamic conversation revolving around angel investing is in store, featuring seasoned investors and entrepreneurs sharing invaluable insights from their journeys.

On a logistical note, members of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce should be aware of recent updates. Due to a new CRM and website build, all members are required to create new logins to ensure continued access.

As the community embarks on these exciting new initiatives, it’s also worth noting the conclusion of the Kauffman Scholars program. Over the span of two decades, this program has played a vital role in supporting low-income and minority students, with a remarkable 90 percent of participants hailing from historically marginalized groups. With a staggering 75 percent of graduates expressing high satisfaction with the program, the positive impact is undeniable. The program is remembered fondly for fostering essential skills in financial literacy, networking, and providing unwavering personal support from coaches.

Greater Kansas City is certainly stepping up! With scholarships, community conversations, and impactful discussions all around, it’s clear that there’s a bright future ahead for its residents.
